For several years, I createdthe monthly covers for a magazine: "L'architettura – cronache e storie" directed by Bruno Zevi. In 1989 I used one of my covers to produce a Christmas greeting card. After erasing the spirally arranged titles of that particular issue of the magazine with some blue brushstrokes, I cut out a few letters from the magazine’s name in order to form the very title of my workwith the remaining letters. I added a second spiral of white dots on a sheet of transparent acetate superimposed on the blue spiral of the cover, writing the author's name and wishes on it. The title accurately represents my subversive essence: I believe artistic creation has the power ofsatisfying a fundamental need inherent in human beings, and therefore to make them less inclined to look for other ways – less creative and pregnant and more subject to addiction – to satisfy their desires. I am thinking of the compulsion to shopping, to make use of drugs and alcohol, to be addicted to the pursuit of profit, pleasure and power. In addition, art is able to be deeply revolutionary when it manages to transform the way of thinking and the attitude of both the creator and the observer. The causes and conditions that led to the creation of my work are on the one hand my dissatisfaction in designing every month an image that had to be relevant to architecture - which is not precisely my main interest. On the other hand, I felt the desire to make a cover already created, printed and published (a ready-made cover) truly "artistic", moving it from its architectural context through minimal modifications. The content of this work is Art: Duchamp's upside-down photo disguised as a woman ('RroseSelavy‘) clearly indicates that we find ourselves in an exquisitely artistic field. The altered headlineindicates both the role and thethaumaturgical function of art and its revolutionary impact with respect to the consumeristic society where everything flows instantly and getssoaked up superficially. There is little transient in this almost "ready-made" work, everything is essential. Its originality consists in the decisionto change the context of the cover from the field of architecture to a declaration of the subversive role of art. The energy set in motion by the change of context is irreversible and definitively changes the meaning of the work. At a time in my life when I was prey to various addictions, I felt the need to declare the independence of art, creative act and creator from the constraints of the system.
