This was a gift for my mother, a work based on what can unite us rather than on what divides us. It was extremely difficult for me to work out the relationship with my mother to the point where I decided to give her something that transcended the suffering I believed she caused me, establishing a spiritual bond between us instead. During one of her journeys to Tibet, my mother had run (but nothing happens by accident...) into a sign located on the top of a mountain. The signal - which bore the phrase "the sky is your limit, the road takes you there" - had impressed her so greatly that she mentioned it several times during her conversations. I wanted to make this phrase, a symbol of my mother's spiritual tension, a moment of unity between mother and daughter, beyond the hardness, denials, psychological abuses that divided us. This operation required all my emotional skills and a great degree of awareness. While she was absent from home, I engraved in the glass of the window-door of her living room that phrase. The first part is located indoors above a horizon line (also engraved in the glass) exactly at the centre of my mother's eyes; the second part of the sentence is located outdoors and below the horizon line. In this way, it is not possible to read the entire sentence at the same time, only half at a time, as if the totality of the experience was denied: this is to highlight the impossibility for human beings to live a far-reaching spiritual experience in its entirety while maintaining absolute awareness. In addition, the fact thatboth parts of the sentence are engravedontwo different sidesof the glass makes it impossible to share the entire experience with another human being. The causes and conditions that led to the creation of this work werea desire to touch my mother's heart, to speak directly to her heart without the mediation of words and the possibility of letting go in an instant of decades of guilt, judgment and suffering in order to create something valuable that would unite us. The content of this work is a sentence encountered by chance during a journey, a phrase whose meaning is eternal and far-reaching. It addresses the noblest part of human beings, the one I used to forgive my mother and to searchfor a soul union between us. One could identify the content of this workwith a sense of humanity at its highest degree. What is transient in this work is the choice of the character I used to engrave the sentence. What is original is the fact that the letters are actually engravedon the heart of the glass, and that their writing takes place on both sides of the glass. The fact that a daughter engraved those words on her mother's heart is also an original event, such as the choice to place the sentence in relation to a horizon line specifically relating to my mother. This work represents the tip of the iceberg of a long troubled and lonely journey I faced to achieve emotional emancipation from my mother. I am proud of it as if it was a golden medal.
