AUTOBIOGRAPHIES (cm. 15x21x2 - 1994)

A painful and important event such as the death of my dogdrove me to write a few pages. I superimposed the pages of that text in such a way as to make letters unreadable, incomprehensible: I am the only one to have a full knowledge of the text. I had the superimposed pages printed on a transparent Plexiglasplate in the shape of a book. The support therefore virtually vanishes, leaving the texture of overlapping letters and words as the only "reality", just as any emotional support from my family of origin had beenlacking and psychological suffering was my only inner reality. The content of the book is visible on the surface of the slate;however, its meaning remains unknown. The causes and conditions that led to the creation of the work are the unspeakable and non-transmissible suffering of a bereavement: the sense of loss and impermanence, the attachmentI projectedon the deceased dog tore my heart apart and resulted in this magma of letters that, despite having undeniably a physical presence, possess meaning and significance only for me. The content of this work is pain, uncertainty, loneliness;however, the telling of my feelings through writing was therapeutic and the creation of the work allowed me both emotional detachment and the beginning of healing. What is transitory in this work is the form, the sizeand the small choices that I had to make when it came to implementing my original idea. What is original, on the other hand, is the way in which suffering found shape in this inconsistent but grievous book, which for me, after so many years, still drips with blood and tears. Within my life, this work finds an intimate and silent place: a tribute to her who was, in the devastating reality of my family of origin, a loving, present, affectionate, warm mother: the only one who constantly gave me unconditional love.
