Among the ladders I made over time, this one occupies a special place, as it is more complex and it originates from a deep feeling. In addition to the actual ladder, I introduced an "indirect" ladder, that is, the imprint left by a ladder on the glass pane. In fact, in the work both of them coexist: the ladder and its trace. The title comes from the indelible memory that a particular trip to Scotland produced within me. The coloured linear contours of the shape accurately represent the route of the journey in topographical terms. The words inserted into the edges are the emotional traces of my passage in those places, which resounded in my soul intimately. Despite being the first time I had visited the place, that trip was a return, a rediscovering of my spiritual home forever. Compared to previous ladders, where I used a few points of colour, this work also features words, obtained by superimposing the glass pane on the pages of my diary describing the journey: I transcribed the words that intersected exactly with the outline of the shape or itinerary. Somehow, those words that astral conjunctions had left on the map of the journey are bearers of a profound sense, however arcane and unknowable. The encounter between itinerary and words describing it remains mysterious;however, it contains a deep meaning, at least for me who wrote the text of the diary conveying in it the intimate emotions that the journey – which remained engraved in my soul as a never-forgotten dèjà vu – brought about. The causes and conditions that led to the creation of this work are twofold. On the one hand, the road map we used during the journey instead of the navigator allowed me to enter visually and mentally into the country I was visiting in a more integrated way than by following an anonymous voice directing us. On the other hand, the desire to give a concrete shape to this ancestral and emotionally important journey. The content of this work is the journey into its physical (geographical), emotional (words) and mental dimension (ladders as the traces of thought). What is transient in this work is the dimensions, the ladders, the words that could be completely different without changing its meaning. What is original, on the contrary, is the combination of elementsproducing energy, the mixture of textures, lines and words making the image evocative, mysterious and significant. Within my life, "Soul geography" occupies a particular place because it represents a long-desired emotional event I lived with intensity: the fulfilment of an encounter with my soul motherland.
