A musical instrument hangs by means of a thread to a wrought iron bracket on a white stand. In this work, colours are absent, only the white of the stand, the native colours of the bracket, of the jew’s harp and of the thread can be found. The "gravity of spirit" referred to in the title relates to the idea of ajew’s harp which, although its name in Italian suggests its function as a thought lightener, is actually composed of very heavy metal. "Chronomeasurer" refers to the series of shadows that the jew’s harp cast on the white support over time whilehanging from the bracket. Some of such shadows were“frozen”in pencil on the support. "True" shadows”, "false" shadows, and tilting object enter the composition, expanding the concept of movement from the physical to the mental world implied in the title. It was a gift for my parents, owners of many of my juvenile works. From an aesthetic point of view, the object has a rather "classic" and at the same time evocative appearance; classic because it possesses its own measure and balance; evocative because it lets the mind free to find associations and connections. The content of the work is a musical instrument inits most essential forms, hanging like a pendulum clock to a bracket with a thread: nothing simpler than that. After the complex alchemy of "Natures" it speaks of a reality reduced to its essence – music, time, rotation on the axis, shadows. In this work, the dimensions and shadows of objects are transient. On the contrary, both the assembly of the material and the title, that sheds new light on the physical presence of the objects, are original. One could say that in this case the title assumes the role of meaning bearer for the entire work. Both the choice of time and the conditions of the human spirit (i.e. its vital energy) are important factors in life. Knowing the right time to do something is an art known to few people and the vital state of the individual depends on the environment that this same individual perceives around him/her. The work is, basically, a meditation on these two aspects of life. Making art requires – in my opinion -both functions: a correct choice of time and a high state of life.
